West Texas smoke and Mexican street flavors, together, inside a restored church. It’s been hiding in plain sight since 2019.
Aaron Diaz opened Noche in 2019 inside the old Calvary Lutheran church at Bardstown and Roanoke, and seven years in it’s still the only kitchen in town where West Texas smoke and Mexico’s tingas, antojitos, and salsas share a menu without either one winning. This week it gave everyone a fresh excuse: a new lunch menu just landed, alongside weekly margarita, taco, and nacho deals. Stained glass, smoke rings, and a kitchen that treats both traditions like they matter, on exactly the stretch of Bardstown Road whose future is up for debate.
Noche is what the Highlands fight is actually about: an independent, one-of-a-kind kitchen betting on Bardstown Road. Places like this are the argument.
The brisket tacos — 15-hour oak-and-mesquite brisket, chiles toreados, chipotle crema. Add the birria tacos if there are two of you.
Go at lunch, since the new menu is the news. Or go Thursday, when the taco-and-margarita deal does the heavy lifting.

The sandwich you have to ask for
Buried in Noche’s new lunch lineup is a vegan sandwich that isn’t printed on any menu; the Courier-Journal just outed it this week. You have to say it out loud to get it, which is half the fun. Order it once and you’re officially a regular.
Angel’s Envy port finish, at the source
If neat bourbon runs too hot for you in July, the port finish drinks softer and a shade sweeter: the summer cheat code. Try it at today’s DayCap and let someone else do the pouring.
DayCap at the Distillery
Today, if you’re reading this in the morning: Angel’s Envy’s every-other-Thursday happy hour on Main Street, with POCO popping up on food and Deep Space Disco on the decks. The best pour of the day is the 4 p.m. one someone else mixes for you.

JTown Big Pour
The old J-Town Beer Fest, grown up: 80-plus pours across beer, wine, and spirits, plus food trucks and live music. Ages 21 and up. And since the pavilion sits next door to the future Four Pegs carvery, call it a scouting trip.

Louisville Burger Week
Burger Week is back: 50-plus restaurants doing $7 and $8 burgers all week, from gourmet blends to off-menu specials. The kickoff party is tonight at Hop Atomica if you want a head start, and checking in at four or more spots enters you in the grilling prize drawing. We put our picks in a field guide on the site.

Four Pegs — Jeffersontown · Mid-July
We told you in June this was coming. Four Pegs’ third location lands at 10410 Watterson Trail, right next to 3rd Turn Brewing, and it won’t be a copy of the Goss Avenue original: owner Chris Williams is running it as a Texas-style carvery, prime cuts carved to order in front of you, a format Louisville barbecue simply doesn’t have.
House of Marigold — Norton Commons · August
The Middletown brunch favorite (Southern Living’s best restaurant in Kentucky in 2024) brings its second location to Meeting Street, and for the first time it’ll serve dinner.
